Last weekend, I attended a wedding ceremony. I hardly ever go out and I knew my casual style was not going to fly so I had to plan my outfit a week before the wedding. I knew I was going to wear a dress but the hard part was what dress? I searched my wardrobe top to bottom (because I knew I was not going buy a new dress what with being on a very tight budget and all.)
The name of this post says it all- I'm definitely loving lace lately. Sure, it's been very close to heart for a very long time but this is different. That's my favourite dress given to me by a friend, Seyi of Fashion Redefined by Seyi, and my favourite top my mum bought for me. I literally jumped up and down in excitement when she gave this to me :D
Hey people! Hope you had a great weekend! Back to work/school on Monday. *Sigh* I really want longer weekends and I'm sure y'all are with me!
This dress was gotten thrift shopping so don't know where you can get it. I really love shirt-dresses. I have a lot of them and they're quite easy to style especially for people like me who basically roll out of bed almost every day.
The uncharacteristic shape was what caught my eye. I love, love, love this dress. It's daring yeah but when pulled off right would get the right type of attention.
How y'all doing? Sorry I have been MIA (Missing In Action) for a while. Hope you had a fab Valentine's day? Mine was basically business as usual with an added comfort- sleep.
The acronym "COTTDS" means "Come Over To The Dark Side". I have an affinity for dark colours and shades. I'm partial to prints. If you read my blog, you know this by now- I am slightly obsessed.

Happy new month people! Aren't you just grateful to be alive? No matter what one is going through, one can take comfort in the fact that once there's life, there's hope.
Gingham is now a trend (yaaaay!!!!) Just like I predicted in my Fashion Forecast post. I am a huge fan of gingham. To be honest, I am a huge fan of prints and patterns. Love them.
Hey people! Long time no outfit-post.
Today's outfit was not what I had in mind. I actually wanted to go for preppy look with a blazer, this dress, and brogues but I wasn't feeling it at all. I just wanted to be casual. Wearing what you're comfortable with, as long as you're not breaking any sartorial rules, is very key.
The outfit is important but how you wear it is more important. Self-confidence and style go hand in hand. You could wear a sac and as long as you wear it with confidence, people would be drawn to it.

As kate Hudson rightly said in the movie "Bride Wars", If a dress works, you work it! Even Anna Wintour supports this saying she wear a dress like twenty times.
The belief might have stemmed from the fact that rich people had a lot of clothes while poor people kept on wearing the same clothes because that's all they had. I guess we may never know for sure, but here's what I know -Theodore Roosevelt hit the nail on the head when she said "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent".
Wear your favourite dress as many times as you want. It's your dress, your body. One day, whether you wear the dress or not, it will get worn out. So wear what you're comfortable in, rock those clothes, and ignore the people who tag you an "Outfit repeater".

We love our loved ones. They're fun to be with, to hangout with. I don't know about you, but unless it's a formal occasion, church or class, I sort of draw a blank when thinking of what to wear. This what to wear series features outfits that could be worn to any of these outings.
Figuring out what to wear to casual hangouts can be challenging. For me, questions like "Am I too dressed up?" "Is this casual or sloppy?" So for these things, it's good to plan ahead. Here are some outfit ideas..
Start off with a floral dress. I love this particular one sooo much! The gladiators give the look an edgy boho vibe. Continue the boho-chic look with round sunglasses and a fedora hat. This bag adds a pop of colour and a sophisticated feel. It also continues the gold detailing going on.
This outfit is the most casual in my opinion. The shorts and the cami sole are soo laid-back. To dress it up slightly, add a drapey necklace like this one. The sunglasses protect the eyes and amp the style factor. Toms continue the casual look but add the "I'm too cool to care" factor.
This is a personal favourite. I was just going to do the hi-low skirt with a cute top and sandals. Then I saw the motorcycle print vest. How awesome is the vintage print?!! Then I kept on going and came up with this. I am definitely going to wear this one.
The outfit has an urban-chic, boho-chic look. The urban element is definitely the sneakers. I kept the colours to white, grey and wine because of the vest so there's no colour clashing.
Dungarees are very casual. Rock them with a crop top, sneakers and cross-body bag. A wristwatch keeps the look smart. I also stuck with a colour theme because the shoes are metallic and loud.
Almost all the looks feature cross-body bags because at hang-outs, we want our hands free, bag close right?
What do you think? Do you like any of the outfits above? Would you wear any of them? Where do you plan to go to? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to hear from you!

Last week I visited Benin Republic. Let me tell you, those people love their Ankara! They could easily wear a shirt, a blazer and then tie an Ankara wrapper underneath instead of a skirt. I think they're trying to preserve their culture. More power to them!
This outfit started with the skirt. I love this skirt. Especially the print and length. It was a gift from a friend. I added the straw hat because I was having a bad hair-day due to unforeseen circumstances. Also, it compliments the outfit.
The t-shirt used to be big and annoying. I cut the sleeves and bottom off. I didn't tack it to make sure it had this undone look. My lipstick matches the necklace...that wasn't done on purpose but I am loving the look!
I was feeling free-spirited and bohemian hence the location, outfit, pose and name.
I am no tree hugger but I was really feeling this tree-pose. :D
Your thoughts?
Would you wear this outfit? Do you like the bohemian style? How would you have styled this skirt? Let me know in the comments.
Since it's the festive season, outings come up. Family dinners, casual hangs with family and friends, parties, and stuff. This "What To Wear" series features outfits that could be worn to any of these outings. We'll be starting with what to wear to a holiday party.
I don't know about you, but when I don't plan my outfit-choice till the very last minute, I FREAK OUT! For this reason, I usually end up wearing something I am not very happy with. So to avoid that, here are some party outfit ideas.
When it comes to parties, the LBD (little black dress) never disappoints. It's a classic for that very reason. These shoes are awesome and they have gold details and a dressed up elegant look that drives the outfit. Add a clutch and a gold ring to continue the golden look.
What do you think? Will you be going for any Holiday parties this season? Would you wear any of the outfits above? Which is your favourite outfit? What element would you have liked incorporated? Let me know in the comments.

OUTFIT 1: Party Animal

top, shorts, shoes, watch, bag |
This outfit is my classic party outfit: shorts, a glitter top and animal print. The combination of leopard print, lace and sequins might be over the top but I like the resulting effect. Do you agree?
OUTFIT 2: Elf-Chic

jumpsuit, shoes, rings, bag |
Look like a chic version of santa's helping hand with this outfit. This one-shoulder jumpsuit is absolutely fabulous! The shoes are a darker shade of green which I love. The gold rings and clutch give this outfit a dressed up feel.
OUTFIT 3: Funky Floral

top, skirt, shoes, bag |
I love everything about this outfit. From the florals and the crop-top to the red shoes and rose gold bag. This look is more outgoing. I started with the skirt then added the croptop. I wanted to add a red element to this outfit so I did so with the shoes. The rose-gold purse compliments the whole outfit but I especially love the way it looks with the red shoes.
OUTFIT 4: Golden Elegance

I love the preppy style. So for this outfit, I was inspired by the typical high school uniform. I think uniforms look sharp and smart. Started with the skirt (got it at Ketu for about 500 Naira *wink*.) It looked high school-ish to me.
I went with this olive shirt instead of a white one because the outfit is supposed to be high school inspired, not an actual uniform. I didn't tuck it in also for the same reason. The blazer came next (naturally). A little baggy for a funky look. I LOVE blazers!
The socks... I was actually supposed to go with knee-highs but changed my mind. Didn't like how it looked. So the ankle socks kept on riding down. *Sigh* I know I shouldn't have worn ankle socks and ankle-strap shoes but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Until I had to keep pulling the socks up. I wear knee-highs when its a dress or a skirt that does look like a uniform. I don't have a lot of heels, time to stock up! Oh well. You win some, you lose some.
I think the hair went fabulously with this outfit. Also, I am obsessed with socks, prints and blazers so expect to see more!

My face when people ask "Why are you wearing socks?" People actually ask. A LOT. |

Tomorrow marks the beginning of december. Wow! Feels like just yesterday, we were saying goodbye to 2013 and today, we're saying goodbye to 2014!
The red bag is actually borrowed from mum. It's Elizabeth Taylor (The bag came with a perfume, promo/gift stuff). The purple shoes are from Shoe Dazzle. I haven't worn them in about 2 years! I don't wear heels a lot. Flat shoes all the way mehn!
The brooch was given to me by my mum. It's a "family heirloom" or at least I intend it to be.

What's your favourite colour blocking combo? Would you wear this outfit? Are you a fan of tulle or crop-tops? Let me know in the comments.
On Sundays, I am usually dressed down. This upsets my mum. No surprise there- she expects me to be classy and elegant and believes those qualities should reflect in my style. I express who I am through fashion so there's no way that's going to happen. Maybe if I become elegant and graceful. Till then.
Anyway, today I just felt like dressing up so the first thing I did was throw in my black Mary-Jane heels to the picture I was creating in my mind. I usually think about the outfit in my head seeing as I know my wardrobe. Then I added the suede-look wine skirt because I REALLY wanted to wear it. I "Up cycled" it yesterday. Translation- I changed it from hideous to okay-looking with some ripping and sewing. Was so happy with the results!
The plaid crop top was added because I wanted to look dressed up but edgy. Finally topped the look with the fedora.Seriously, accessories make an outfit. The outfit looked so different without the hat on. All in all, I think the look worked fabulously. It's good to step out of your comfort zone once in a while.
Your thoughts?
You know you are in a fashion rut when you feel like you have been wearing a particular set of dresses (i.e, your go-to outfits) over and over. I think I have come up with a simple and obvious solution- Mix things up a bit.
My go-to outfit would be a sleeveless dress, oversized shirt/blazer (depending on the occasion) and flats. So this time, I decided to go with my oversized shirt and a skirt instead. I actually wanted to use the shirt as a jacket (as I would normally do) but decided to button it down for a change and I absolutely love the result.
In the first outfit, I went with a pink polka-dot skater skirt and a grey shirt. I used the skinny belt to add structure seeing as the skirt is flared and the shirt is big. The wine crossbody bag is because I love the combination of pink and wine. I wanted to wear black heels with this outfit but then it started raining and I really wasn't in the mood anymore.
I think I prefer the second outfit. Probably because the colours are dark and netrual. I love those shoes! They're a bit undersized (a gift from my aunt) but whatever. I mean, it's Nine West.
I used the same grey shirt to emphasize the mixing things up theme. So its's the same look, same concept, but totally different outfits.

Which outfit is your favourite? Would you wear any of the outfits above? How do you get out of a fashion rut? Let me know in the comments.
