Sentiments Of an Unservile Fashionist

She walks up to me, flashes a predator-like smile and says "Hey! You look nice. I love your drress! Isn't that the same dress you wore last week?" I give her my most polite look and reply "Yes. Yes, it is." She looks at me like she's won some battle. I give her my best poker-face to point out that she's alone on the "battlefield". She walks away triumphantly laughing and goes over to her friends. Judging by their interested faces, she's telling them some fascinating story. I hear the phrase "outfit repeater" faintly. They all laugh. I look away thinking "seriously??"

It's popular belief that one shouldn't repeat dresses or outfits. I really don't understand where that came from seeing as when we buy clothes, we intend to wear them more than once (with exceptions ofcourse). It's my clothing article. It's my outfit. I'll wear it as many times as I want to.

As kate Hudson rightly said in the movie "Bride Wars", If a dress works, you work it! Even Anna Wintour supports this saying she wear a dress like twenty times.

The belief might have stemmed from the fact that rich people had a lot of clothes while poor people kept on wearing the same clothes because that's all they had. I guess we may never know for sure, but here's what I know -Theodore Roosevelt hit the nail on the head when she said "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent".

Wear your favourite dress as many times as you want. It's your dress, your body. One day, whether you wear the dress or not, it will get worn out. So wear what you're comfortable in, rock those clothes, and ignore the people who tag you an "Outfit repeater".
