Resolutions, Changes, And All That Come With A New Year

03:07

For as long as I can remember, the beginning of a new year has always signified an opportunity to start afresh. Why is that? I guess it's the feeling of "Newness" around us. The feeling "old things have passed away, new things have come" generates. Hope that with a new clean slate, we can make changes, become whoever we want to be.

While this is true, I believe we don't need to wait for a new year to do all this. Everyday is a new day. An opportunity make the changes we want to make. The thing is, that feeling of hopelessness that creeps in at odd moments is held at bay (for most people) during this season. Surrounded by family and friends, Warmth flows all over and inspiration is renewed. Inspiration to be better not just good.
We strive to give up old habits. Promise ourselves that this year will be the best year of our lives. Sometimes, it is. Sometimes, it 's not. But hey, as long as we're alive, there's always going to be a new year so if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again.

Resolutions

I don't like making new year resolutions. It seems so trite. Not like I ever keep them. But with those feelings of warmth and inspirations I mentioned before... I guess I couldn't resist. I keep mine realistic and this year, my resolutions have a "Pursuit Of Happiness " theme.
 Possible Resolutions...

Stop Comparing yourself with others

The compulsion to consistently compare ourselves with others.
This one goes two ways. On one hand, It could be very destructive- Comparing oneself to others, especially people you think are doing far better than you can ridiculously lower your self-esteem and undermine ones self-worth. On the other hand, it could be very productive. Trust me, there's no motivator like competition.
But all in all, it would PAY to stop the comparison and just be oneself. Live and enjoy life.

Go for it!

Do all the things you've always wanted to but balked at the last minute due to fear of failure or actual fear. Aim high and perhaps you won't fall so short. Believe in yourself and take a risk. If the question "Why" pops in your head, stop and ask "Why not?"

Pride comes before a fall

Pride. The most destructive vice in my opinion. There is a huge difference between dignity and pride. One is productive and important for self preservation. The other is completely useless and comes with great consequences. There's a fine line between these two things.
In 2015, don't let your ego get in the way of your happiness, socialization and life in general. Forget the social status stuff. Be your humble normal self and let people see the real you.

Live in the moment

We are constantly planning and working towards the future that we forget that there is nothing like the present. In 2015, take out time to enjoy each moment of your life so that in the future, when the present becomes the past, there will be fond memories, feelings and no regrets. Which leads to number five.

No regrets

Don't regret anything that gives/gave you joy or/and happiness. Even if it was not a great decision, accept that, move on and make necessary changes. Life's too short to keep on dwelling on mistakes.

Be your trendsetter

We are often slaves to society. We do as society dictates and forget our wants and needs and what makes us comfortable or happy. In 2015, dare to be different!

Something new, something different

What better way to be reminded of the adventure life offers than trying something different? Life's too short for monotony. Be it Bungee Jumping, a vacation or rock climbing, it's good to change things up a bit. And lastly,..

Be not ashamed of self-love

No one can love you better than you. That's a fact. We are constantly judging ourselves. Give yourself a break. Yes, you have flaws but then so does everyone. Accept yourself for who you are and be happy. Self improvement is very important but don't underestimate you. Compliment and/or spoil yourself once in a while. You deserve it.

Your thoughts?

What are your new year resolutions? Are any of these in yours? What do you think of mine? Let me know in the comments.

  1. My resolution is to own my personality. I feel that it can be so easy to pretend that you like something when you are around different people, but as I have gotten older I realize how silly that is. I see why you don't make resolutions, but I do like your list. Happy holidays! I would love to follow each other! Just let me know on my blog :)
