I find it a little strange that after almost three years of blogging, I have never done a "facts about me" post. That said, I decided to go big by stating 25 as opposed to stating 10 as I was initially tempted to do.
I've always been of the opinion that it's the little quirks that complete the puzzle of a person (until the puzzle pieces change totally, that is) so without much ado, here are 25 facts about your homegirl:

1. I'm very bad at basic math.

You know how people calculate sums in their heads? Nope. I do not do such. I'm a civilized person who uses calculators for their very purpose, ya know?

2. I'm Igbo.

I get the "what tribe are you?" question a lot. I'm from Imo state, Nigeria. Let me use this medium as a quick tutorial sesh. There are five Igbo states- Anambra, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu. Yes, this means that Rivers, Delta, Crossrivers, and Benin are NOT Igbo states. I also get the "Apart from Hausa and Yoruba tribes, the remaining are Igbo na" statement a lot. The State and Capital chart would beg to differ.

3. My other names:

Olivia, Nwamara, Ugochi.
4. I think school is fun.

Apart from the frustration, constant pressure of exams and stress, being in a strictly learning environment is pretty cool actually.

5. Margaret Zhang is my girl crush.

Yes, it's a thing. I really really love Lorde but Margaret trumps Lorde any day.

6. I don't fix weaves.

I just don't. *shrugs*

7. I'm studying Physiotherapy at the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos.

Physiotherapy means physical therapy (not massage!) and it's a five year course. I have 2.5 years left.

8. My parents and I are G's.


I'm just not one of those children who lie to my parents or necessarily fear them.

9. I sing.

And I'm pretty good actually albeit a little rusty. Been a while since I used my vocal cords for anything other than passing important information, chatting with my friends or screaming when the team or person I support wins.

10. I wish I was born with 3b hair.

You know, my wish isn't too far fetched. I just want the type of curls one gets when one does a Jerry Curl perm. It's not that I don't love my hair. I just love my hair at a certain length. Medium length 4c hair is quite difficult to manage.

11. I love colours.

Just not in my Wardrobe and my living space. Makes me kinda crazy especially when the colours clash. *shivers*. I love yellow, pastel pink, blue and greyish purple for design though. Colours are pretty to look at. I just dislike wearing them.

12. I don't like body con anything.

They are so uncomfortable. When I dress up or choose an outfit, the second thing on my checklist is comfort. The first is not looking crazy of course.

Blogging is something very dear to me. Apart from it's various benefits, it's an opportunity I do not take for granted.

It gives me a voice and this is something that I've wanted for so long, I'm actually quite shocked I thought about quitting. Oh, I did.

I thought about deleting the blog and putting three years of this experience in the deep recesses of my mind. I hesitated. It was a real struggle, heavily weighing on me just shutting everything down.

The word boredom is mostly foreign to me.

Not necessarily because I have a lot of things occupy my time (medical student + blogger + You Tuber = Little to no free time) but because I've always had a string of hobbies, especially when I was still in secondary school (high school) and was a blog-less person. Har.

I remember dabbling in fashion illustration at the age of 12 when I still had grand illusions of being a designer and reading countless magazines when I was 14 because I wanted to be a fashion writer. And most recently, subscribing to countless photography blogs so I could at least produce visually acceptable pictures.

Long time no acne jokes/rants/mentions right? If you think this is because it cleared up, you have no idea how far you are from the truth.

Ok so, lots of people hate acne. I have heard many a people have gotten depressed due to acne. Let's shine some light on the matter shall we?

In case you didnt know, ...

Acne
Skin condition, usually of the face, caused by the inflammation of sebaceous glands through bacterial infection. Characterised by red pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, etc.

Yes, I don't have the serious kind that would drive people to try drugs, injections and stuff. But, I feel I can relate because I have had acne for a very long time so I have gotten used to it.

So instead of focusing on the negative, we're going to be looking at the silver lining in those dark grey clouds.

Contrary to popular belief there are some pros of acne far-fetched as they might seem to be.

The Benefits

1. Great conversation starter.
Well, you obviously don't walk up to someone and say "Hi, I like your acne!"
You, the "owner" of the acne could use a self-depreciating remark to break the ice in many situations. Like seriously, it just might work. Or not. You never know, depends on your audience.


2. Perfect excuse for not being interested in slapping on full make up.
I'm one of those people who are just not interested in foundation and concealer and the full works. At least not yet. So many people keep asking me "Why don't you wear makeup?"

Before, I'd try to explain that I'm a lipstick and eyeliner kinda person which would of course lead to the "Why?!!!" which is a really dark road filled with odd looks and lots of follow up questions. You don't wanna go there.

These days, I just point at my face with a resigned expression "It's because of my acne" If they still don't look convinced, I add "You know, I don't wanna clog my pores...". They then nod understandingly.

*Dusts hands* Neatly done.


3. You belong to a wide community of understanding fellows
We acne people have to stick together ya know? Plus, there are so many topics you could discuss with a fellow acne sufferer. For example,

Person with acne: Ugh I'm just so tired of acne, so frustrating!

Me: What products have you used?

Person with acne: Lots! Right now I'm using Aleo Vera, honey sugar scrub and other organic stuff.

Me: Yea! I tried the organic way too! The Aleo Vera stuff worked for a while...

And this leads to other cool things and we eventuially become besties.
Another scenerio...
Random person with perfect skin: So... that's a nice plant.

Me: Yea, it's very... uhm... green.

And we both look away. No happy ending there.


4. You get freckles *coughs* spots *coughs*
Freckles? Yes! Freckles! Cute aren't they?

That's right people! We don't need to do anything to get birthmarks and/or freckles unlike some people who use make up (pencils) to draw freckles.

Seriously, I kid you not. It's a thing.


5. You can blame EVERYTHING on acne
No jokes, this works.

"This top would look so much better on me if I didn't have acne."

*Brows not coming out good this morning* "It's because of this stupid acne!"

*Wakes up in a bad mood* "If only I didn't have acne!"

*Hasn't blogged in a while* *blames it on acne*

*Dog dies* *blames it on acne*

*Friends forget you exist then go out and have a smashing time* *blames it on acne*

Trust me, it's a good outlet.


6. At the end you have an inspiring/entertaining/helpful story to tell
I haven't reached my end yet (sadly) so I don't quite have any story to tell except helping people understand the basics of what causes acne and of course writing stuff like this.

However, it's a thought that could keep you going you know. It sort of annoys me when people who've never had acne try to tell me how to go about it.

This simply means that if you eventually want to make "helping pople cure acne" your life's work, you have a good shot because, experience.

Hey people!

So the good people over at the Irede Foundation are doing a wonderful campaign on helping child amputees. The project 1000 campaign is set up in order to raise funds for children amputees to get prostheses by calling on people to donate 1000naira and in turn put smiles on their faces.


An estimated 200 million are born with disabilities or are disabled by the age of 19, children living with limb loss (either congenital or acquired ) feel different from their peers.



The cost of an artificial limb is a heavy financial burden for most families, especially considering that child amputees outgrow their limbs as regularly as they outgrow clothing.

The IREDE Foundation is set up to give child amputees love, hope & joy, and over the last 3 years, we have given out 32 prosthesis and replaced 10 prosthesis. The Irede Foundation assists with the costs of standard artificial limbs and ongoing adjustments and repairs.



Individuals are encouraged to refer any child with limb-loss within their immediate environment. To donate funds for this cause, you can do so through:
