Trend Watch: Statement Earrings (DressLily Wishlist)

Trends change way too fast for my taste truth be told so I, therefore, don't hop on them fast enough but if there's one trend I've been loving lately, it's statement accessories. I've always been a fan of all things quirky, so that made me a perhaps a tad too enthusiastic about this.

I get questions on where I get my accessories, mostly rings, and dresslily is a cool site to get these stuff on the cheap (you know how we roll). All items except one (in the picture above) cost below $5. Can you guess which? I'm actually curious as to which earring looks most expensive.

Without further ado;

1. Tassel Hustle

Whose on the tassel trend? *raises both hands* I love this trend so much and I've been seeing tassel earrings EVERYWHERE. I actually did a Tassel DIY but this was a tassel pendant. I say hustle because whilst pretty, they could be stressful for someone not particularly used to statement earrings. Ha ha.

2. The bold red lip

So quirky and fun, love it. Perfect for those days you'd love a bold red lip but just can't stand the though of one bit of make up on your face. anyone else have one of those days? No? Just me?

3. Cuff Stuff

If you're following me on Instagram (if you're not, do it NOW) you'd have noticed ear cuffs are my new thing. Love them so so much. This is one form of pretty that don't hurt.

4. Imaginary adventures

I told my friend to get me something from Paris (since she refused to let me hitch a ride in her suitcase) to bring me something from Paris. She brought back an Eiffel tower souvenir. At least one can look it and imagine taking an elevator ride in the tower and see the sights.

I know, I know, pretty hard to do when said tower(s) is dangling from your neck. But still, same concept applies, yes?

5. Tropical style

It's pineapple season yo! Represent your favourite fruit by proudly rocking them statement style! *rushes off to look for banana earrings*

5. Edgy statement

This one is for all the edgy girls out there. Notice how it would've been really creepy of it weren't for subtlety? Many fashionistas could take a page out of this book.

PS: Mum, I know you're reading this and shivering all the same about "creeping and crawling things".

6. Triangular whirl

I know, this looks like someone literally took a piece of wire, bent it and ta-da! Earrings! Still cute though. It would probably be an awesome conversation starter.

8. The name above all

I love these. 'Nough said.

Now to the fun part,... Would you wear these?

In case you're confused, the first is a ring and the second is a pom-pom earring. Very weird to me.

Would you ever rock these?

Didn't even have to ponder. Short answer: Never.

5 Epic Hairstyles That'll Make You Embrace The Green Hair Trend

As you might have noticed, I'm sort of obsessed with coloured hair. Turns out the world is too. Green hair has been taking the world by storm. I have always had a soft spot for green- it is after all my mum's favourite colour. Earlier this year, we were seeing more of the aquamarine green but we're sort of bored with this look after seeing men dyeing their hair and beards aquamarine (Yup! It happened) so I was happy to see more of green. I mean actual leafy green. Lets get right down to the hairstyles!

Black and Grey Braids

As noticed with the Grey Hair Trend, green was mostly rocked in weaves. Was quite pleased when I noticed people wearing green braids. This look is quite safe compared to all green. The black tones down the green a little and gives it a funky feel as an added bonus. I particularly love how the hair was styled with the outfit perfectly matching the hair.

Pixie Cut

I love pixie cuts! I sported mine earlier this year but decided to let it grow out a bit, rock it, then cut it. I think this is a unique look. If dyeing you natural hair, it's advisable to use a darker shade of green. It's your hair, you can't just take it off. If you're feeling daring, by all means use a lighter shade. Also the style of the pixie cut should match you face shape.

Green Braids

How Awesome is this look?! Again, would advise a darker shade because its supposed more socially acceptable. This look is easily achieved using attachment. Box braids would also look cool.

Yarn Twists & Faux Locs

This is sort of a two in one thing. This look is easily achieved using yarn more popularly known as wool. I prefer the faux locs though. If you like the twists smaller, simply tighten them. I think these looks have a certain retro, funky look about them and they are certainly unique.

Ombre Effect

Of course, this list wouldn't be complete without the ombre look. I like how this one fades to golden-green at the ends. Again unique and rockable.

I am loving these hairstyles as I think they're unique. Yes, they're not particularly appropriate in less fashionable working places but they are fun to rock though.

Grey hair in general has been making serious waves for a while now. In fact, style has been getting bolder over the years. Most things that were restricted to runways are now being incorporated in day-to-day style. Put simply, it's now in style to be stylish.

For a while, everyone just wore weaves but now, braids are back and bigger with a variety of styles to choose from. Add the ease of styling, and braids are definitely the way to go.

Basic black or brown isn't cutting it anymore. We've been seeing a lot of colours like blue, wine, blonde and all those the interesting colours, including pink, but the colour that really caught my eye is grey or silver if you will.

I am loving this trend not only because grey is one of my best colours, but also because it looks really hip. It adds this BOOM factor to your look and if pulled off well, would spread the grey syndrome. ;)

Wondering how to rock grey hair? Here are some of my tips:

Firstly, be prepared - staring comes with the trend.

You've decided you're going do it. You've made your hair and you're loving it! You dress up and go about your daily business... Except people keep staring and staring and staring!

It's all about the confidence. No matter what, people will stare so just go about your business and enjoy your hairstyle. Some would love it, some wouldn't. All the matters is you love it.

Be occasion appropriate

If you work in a place with a strict dress code, I'ld advise using a few strands of grey mixed with black just to add a little va va voom without crossing the line. We like to respect the dress code rules and all.

Just a touch if you please

Not daring enough to use all grey? Again, a few strands, one, two or more is advisable. Then you can rock the trend without being too out there. You could also make it ombré- just grey at the tips which is also very stylish.

Play with it, mix it up.

You could try different attachments with different textures like wool for instance. Or kinky braids. They add an Afro-punk feel to your look which is really funky.

Lastly, it doesn't start and end with braids.

You could twist your grey attachment, fix a grey weave, dye your hair grey (I would advise a light grey, almost moon blonde colour), and experiment with other things. Life is too short for boring hair :)
